Anambra state declares Thursday February 1, public holiday in honour of Alex Ekwueme, amid claim the FG will spend N1b on his funeral



Anambra state Governor Willie Obiano has declared Thursday February 1, 2018 a public holiday in honour of the late former Vice President of Nigeria, Alex Ekwueme. The news was made known by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Professor Solo Chukwudebelu.

He said the public holiday was to enable people resident in the state participate actively in the funeral service of the late Vice President, planned by the state government, in Awka.

He revealed that businesses and markets in the state will be closed on that day to enable full participation.
Alex Ekuweme died in a UK hospital on the 19th 0f November 2017, after he suffered a chest infection which left him in coma for two weeks. He was flown out immediately from a hospital in Enugu to a UK hospital where he was until his death.

His remains arrived Nigeria days yesterday just as the FG announced that a whooping N1 billion had been approved for his funeral.
