Former Nigerian Vice President Alex Ekwueme is dead

Ailing former Nigerian Vice President Alex Ekwueme has kicked the bucket. The second republic vice president reportedly died in a London hospital on Sunday night after a brief illness.

Ekwueme battled chest infection in Nigeria and was flown to London weeks ago for adequate medical care but couldn't make it. Laz Ekwueme, his younger brother and traditional ruler of Oko Community in Anambra State confirmed the sad news in a statement this morning.

The Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON. “The sad event occurred at The London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017, he said. 

Ekwueme was Vice President under Shehu Shagari in 1979. May his soul rest in peace.
