'Borrowed' 9-months-old baby found one week after he went missing

A nine-month-old baby who went missing for one week after his mother, Abongile Nojahi, “lent” him to her neighbour , has been finally been re-united with his mother.

According to reports, baby Gift Nojahi went missing on Saturday June 3,  following the failure of his mother’s friend to return him home after taking him to a shopping mall in Phoenix, South Africa.

25-year-old Abongile gave out her son to her  17-year-old neighbour, Zanele Mchunu, for an outing but couldn't get him back as Zanele disappeared with her baby. Zanele who was in the habit of  “borrowing” the baby decided to keep him for herself.

Luckily for the careless mother, police arrested Zanele and baby Gift was returned to her.

Nojahi said,

“I’m happy that my baby has been found; that’s what matters the most. I have no problem with what she did and I would definitely forgive her, since I do not even know the reason why she disappeared with the baby. The baby is back with me now,”

Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said the baby was found alive on Sunday, June 11.

“The baby was first taken to a place of safety after he was found.
“The suspect was arrested and charged for kidnapping after she was traced to her hideout.”
“She appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday and court appearance results are unknown at this stage,” Gwala said.
