Villagers block Ikot Ekpene - Uyo Road under construction with charms (photos)

Unknown residents of a community in Akwa Ibom State today blocked a road under construction with charms in order to stop government from working on the road.

Ikot Ekpene - Uyo Road which had been under construction during the Godswill Akpabio administration was said to have been abandoned by the present administration, a claim which they denied.

The government decided to resume work on the road, and this morning, some residents blocked the road with charms and allegedly demanded that work be stopped for undisclosed reasons.

Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Media, Aniekeme Finbarr, shared photos of the charms on his Facebook page and wrote:

Imagine
This is the Ikot Ekpene - Uyo dualization project which some persons said Governor Udom Emmanuel has abandoned. After paying hundreds of millions in compensation and restarting work on the project, some people have blocked the road with fetish objects demanding the project be stopped.
When will our people be progressive for once?
Works Commissioner Ephraim Inyang has ordered that the fetish materials be burnt after prayers. Development has to go on!
