A phone thief was lynched for stabbing a girl this morning. The incident happened at Goldie cemetery in Calabar, Cross River State.

An eyewitness, Pearl Bassey, told Emem Etto's Blog that the thief was in the the habit of terrorising the area. He frequently robbed students returning from school in the area. He robbed some last night and returned to rob this morning, but luck ran out on him.

According to Pearl, the yet to be identified thief accosted a student of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, attending lectures at about 7am. He attempted to take her phone but the girl held onto the phone, shouting for help. The thief took out a knife, stabbed the girl and ran away with the phone.

Some students in the area heard the screams of his victim and chased after the thief. He ran into Goldie cemetery but was caught before he could escape. They killed him on the spot and set him ablaze.

Pearl revealed that the level of insecurity in the area has been alarming. She said her house was robbed in 2015 and she was just lucky to have made it out alive.
