Court orders INEC to proceed with recalling Senator Dino Melaye

Looks like there is imminent trouble for Dino Melaye as the court today ruled against his recall case. The Nigerian senator who was in court challenging the validity of the process of recalling him was today given the red right and his case dismissed.

A Federal High Court in Abuja headed by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba ordered that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, proceed with recalling the dramatic Senator. Dino Melaye had accused INEC of malpractice, saying the petition to recall him was signed by fictitious, dead and non- existing persons in his senatorial district.

Justice Dimgba noted that Dino Melaye was quite hasty and presumptuous in his decision to sue INEC, as the electoral body had already scheduled the exercise for the verification of the authentication of the signatures in support of his recall.

Justice Dimgba dismissed the disgruntled Senator's claim that the number of signatures did not meet the entry stipulated in the constitution.  He reminded Dino that the number of signatures needed to kick start his recall process in Kogi West senatorial district had been met, seeing that 360, 100 registered for the election and 188, 588 people signed for his recall.
